Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder that occurs in approximately 1 out of every 15,000 births and is associated with dysfunction of the portion of the brain called the hypothalamus. PWS occurs at the same rate in males and females, and afflicts people of all races. There is currently no cure for PWS nor are there treatments effective at alleviating all of the symptoms of PWS. The goal of The Foundation for Prader-Willi Research is to support research into areas that will lead to the development of effective therapies for those with PWS so that they may more easily lead full and productive lives.
